Donny's first experience with music was at age nine. He picked up his father’s old arch top guitar, and the two of them sat down with a book of old songs. It didn’t take long before he was playing leads and sitting in with other local musicians. He started writing songs at the age of 16 and continued writing music throughout his lifetime, spanning multiple genres including country, rock, and blues.
Donny was a lead guitarist and singer for The Rocky Stone Band, and The Red Lizard Blues Band that played all over central North Carolina. He also had the opportunity to do this with his father, who backed him up on harmonica.
In 2000, Donny decided to start writing contemporary gospel music. Over the course of six years, he recorded two full length CD's and an EP. This evolved into a job for him as a part time worship leader.
In 2006, Donny took a break from music to be a full time father to his son and daughter who were excelling in sports and keeping hectic schedules.
Last year, with his kids grown, Donny returned to music. He spent some time in Nashville recording a full length album with Buddy Hyatt (Toto) and believes in staying true to his country roots. His recently released several singles: “She Wrecked My Truck”, “I Can't Do Us Anymore”, “Her Kiss”. “Heaven Looking Back at Me” is scheduled for radio release this fall with some tour dates to follow.
Donny is living proof that it’s never too late to follow your dreams.
